Ian Bardon leads North Yorkshire Scouts

Ian Bardon, Derrick Kershaw Partnership’s Associate Partner & Quantity Surveyor, has for the past four years fulfilled the role of Scout District Commissioner for Ripon District after being involved with the scouting movement for many years. We are extremely proud to announce that Ian has recently been appointed to the position of Scout County Commissioner for North Yorkshire. This is the first time in modern scouting that a Ripon man has been given this high office.

Being County Commissioner for Scouts in North Yorkshire is a mammoth task in a county of some 8,300 square kilometres, covering a rural area from Ingleton in the west to Scarborough in the east and from Stokesley in the north to Selby in the south. There are over 6,500 young people and adults involved in scouting in the County.

Ian’s aspirations are to develop better communications across the largest Scout County in England and to encourage more adult support. He aims to do this by adopting a more ‘diverse team’ approach to leadership by accepting what time each individual has to offer. He also wants to positively promote the influences scouting has on young people, both boys and girls, in the County.

“We generally only hear the negatives about the young people in our society and rarely hear about the successes” says Ian, “Scouting continues to promote good citizenship and offers young people skills that they may use for the rest of their lives. In addition, it introduces them to the great outdoors, with activities such as canoeing, sailing, trekking, rock climbing, mountain biking and much, much more.”

We wish you every success in your new role. Congratulations Ian!
