Centre Going Green

Centre Going Green

The New Centre is a replacement of the existing Green Lane Play Centre and is part of a five year project to regenerate the east side of Whitby. The new £1.5m centre has an eco friendly heating system and its roof covering is made from sedum which absorbs carbon and enhances the thermal efficiency of the building.

Inside, the building makes use of natural light, via Sun tubes, to reduce the need for electric lighting and utilises Ground Source Heating. These and other sustainable aspects of the building contribute to a considerable reduction in the carbon foot print.

“Derrick Kershaw Partnership has together with Coast & Moors Voluntary Action and Scarborough Borough Council successfully completed the redevelopment of the Green Lane Centre. The centre will provide high quality offices and training rooms as well as a Community Room, an Exhibition Room and £30000 Digital Media Suite. It has been an ambitious project and the £1.5 million investment has delivered an inspirational building. The Design and Development of the project, delivered by Derrick Kershaw Partnership, was to the highest standards of environmental excellence, both in terms of visual impact and energy efficiency. It has resulted in a real cultural change and a new spirit of ambition within Whitby local community. ” Sarah Fenwick, Regeneration Manager for Coast & Moors Voluntary Action.
